For go-kart young gun Adam Slattery, 2015 has been a very successful year.
The year has seen the youngster win multiple championships and state titles and break 12 lap records at different venues across three states.
Some of the Cadet 12 class driver’s notable achievements included becoming South Australia State Champion and NSW Southern Stars State Champion.
His father Adam Sr, said his son has had an amazing year.
“Throughout 2015, we raced at 26 race meetings all over the country,” he said.
“When you add in the testing days, it has been a huge effort to compete successfully at this level.
“Adam has grown into a super-fast driver who can use cold tyres to his advantage, especially at the events that have qualifying.
“Adam has impressed a lot of people in the karting world this year, not only with his success but with how he has handled situations when things haven’t gone his way.”
There were times this year where things, did indeed, not go Adam’s way.
Losing the Australasian Titles on the final lap proved quite heartbreaking and so did the final race of the SA Festival State Cup.
Adam went into the final race only needing to finish in the top six to win the five round series.
Starting from pole position, things were looking great and a win looked likely.
Unfortunately, on lap two the team suffered their first mechanical DNF which saw Adam stopped on track and lose the series by just one agonising point.
But Adam was able to put that behind him and move on to bigger and better things in the year.
With Adam and his dad constantly venturing far beyond the Silver City, Mr Slattery took the time to thank a very special supporter.
“Adam and I couldn’t do what we do with the amazing support of my wife Chrissy, who lets us travel most weekends to chase the dream,” Mr Slattery said.
“We also have to thank my father and brother for their efforts to be at the track with us, it makes a big difference.
“Lastly, we have to thank all of our sponsors for their support during the year.”
Adam is currently down in Adelaide undergoing a fitness program with a specialised motorsport fitness company.
The program will see him get in better shape for the bigger and more powerful karts he will be driving next year.
“Planning is underway for next year and we will shortly start our testing program with the larger chassis and more powerful engines that Adam will use.
“We can’t wait for 2016.”
