City’s Australia Day ambassador named

Broken Hill’s Australia Day Ambassador is dual Olympian, Alexandra Croak.
Alexandra is part of an exclusive club of Olympians, having competed in two different sports. At the Sydney 2000 Olympics she represented Australia as a gymnast and at the 2008 Beijing Games she was in the diving team.
She was the fifth Australian female to be a dual Olympian for two different sports and the first ever Commonwealth athlete to achieve gold medals at Commonwealth Games in two different sports.
Away from sport, Alexandra completed a Bachelor of Applied Science - Occupational Therapy and Masters of Health Science - Sexual Health at The University of Sydney.
While studying at Sydney University, she finished with a silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was a silver medalist at the 2010 World Cup, a gold and bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships.
As well as her training and study commitments she is an ambassador with The Premier’s Sporting Challenge (NSW), The National Breast Cancer Foundation and is an Executive Board Member of the Olympians Club of NSW.
Local Australia Day activities get underway from 7am with a barbecue breakfast.
At 8am there will be a flag raising ceremony immediately followed by the Citizenship Ceremony, Australia Day Ambassador Address and Presentation of the 2016 Broken Hill Australia Day Awards.
