Despite the blue green algae gloom that has settled on Menindee Lakes, one young man has had a stroke of luck.

Peter Morgan has captured a 103 cm female, weighing about 60 to 70 pounds.

“It was definitely quite a big cod - it was the first cod I had caught,” Peter said.

“We had been out there all day from about 11am and it wasn’t until 7pm that I caught her.

“We were trawling along, and I managed to hook that.

“I hadn’t caught anything else that day. She was a big monster.”

Peter is currently working on a station but whenever he is on holidays, he visits Menindee to fish.

“While on holidays, I come to Broken Hill and Menindee to do some fishing with my mates.”

The female cod was captured and Peter grabbed a snap with her before releasing her back.

“She was pretty big, so hopefully she was pregnant - I hope to head out again pretty soon and try my luck.”
