Locals are invited to tee off for a good cause at the South Golf Club this weekend for the Will Kuerschner Leukaemia Foundation Open Day.

Will passed away in December 2009 after a 10-month battle with leukaemia, and the day is a chance for players to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

His father Nick said the foundation had been extremely helpful during his son’s difficult struggle with the disease.

“They were brilliant for us, they offered us accommodation and help - the way they support country people is phenomenal,” he said.

“Our wish was to give back to the Leukaemia Foundation any way we could I suppose.”

The Open Day will feature a casual mixed ambrose competition, and teams can be entered by showing up early on the day or calling the club on 8087 4639.

South Golf Club’s Paul Marshall said beginner players were most welcome for the lighthearted social hit.

“It’s just a fun day, the golf isn’t very serious,” he said.

“We get out and have a few laughs, a few airies, and raise some money for the Foundation.”

The event begins at 10am on Sunday, however players are advised to make their way to the club at 9.30am.

A raffle to win a Phil Jones original painting will also be drawn on the day.
