Trainers from far and wide have signalled their interest in this year’s St Pat’s race meeting with a healthy 74 nominations received.
The number is significantly lower than last year’s total of 138, however the 2015 meeting attracted unusually high numbers as it was the club’s 50th anniversary.
There are also just four dual nominations amongst this year’s field, and club president Marg Corradini said there were plenty of new and returning faces amongst the participating trainers.
“At this stage we’re very pleased with our numbers,” she said.
“There’s Paula Trenwith, Annette Harder and Kym Healy who have all won cups over the years, and we have some other trainers who are new.
“So there’s quite a few regulars and a few we haven’t seen before.”
Local trainers Wayne Marsden, Heidi Smith, and Barry Murray will also be taking part, and will pit their charges against the visitors in the hopes of securing a home victory or two throughout the day.
All trainers will be vying for almost $200,000 worth of prize money and trophies, and Ms Corradini said the surface was looking ideal for some high-stakes racing.
“There’ll be good quality racing definitely, the track is looking absolutely superb,” she said.
“It should be a fast track as long as we don’t get a huge downpour on it, it’s looking fantastic and I think the trainers will be very happy with how the track comes up.”
With the big race meeting now just days away, locals are encouraged to get their Race Day Membership from the club office at 399 Crystal Street.
The $35 membership includes a members badge, race book voucher, McDonald’s voucher, admission to the members bar and grandstand, and a sweep ticket.
Anyone seeking further information on the event or race day packages can contact the office on 8087 7550.
