One local trainer is optimistic about his chances of getting a win at St Pat’s tomorrow.

Silverton trainer Barry Murray has got just the one horse running in the eight race event with his seven-year-old gelding, Triumphant One, ready to race.

Triumphant One will be part of the eight horse field for the Dr Biljana Trask Benchmark 64 Handicap and Barry said there is a chance of him getting the win.

“He goes well on this track,” he said.

“I think he’s had five starts for a win and two thirds so he’s never far away.

“But he’s getting to the end of his tether soon, he’s been a good horse for us but this will probably be his last campaign.

“He finds it a little tough at times.”

Barry’s other two horses, Magnusificent and Helbartor will miss tomorrow’s race meet leaving his hopes purely on Triumphant One.

“The other two, I’ve had a bit of a set back with them,”

“Magnusificent, he’s just a little bit behind the 8-ball at the moment, he’ll probably race in about three to four weeks time.

“As for Helbartor, he’s out of work right now, he’s had a few little problems that he’s just getting over with.”

After being spelled in October last year, Triumphant One had his first start of 2016 in Clare a fortnight ago.

“It was his first run after about four months off,”

“He led them up to the turn but got a bit tired and they caught up to him.

“He hasn’t got that race fitness in him at the moment.

“But he’s working well, he’s on his home track this weekend and hasn’t got to travel too far, he’s got a pretty good record here.

“If he runs a place, I’ll be happy.”

Ashley Doyle will ride the seven-year-old tomorrow and Barry is confident he will get the best performance out of Silverton runner.

“He knows the horse really well and always does a good job on him,” he said.

“He’s ridden him a few times in the past and knows what to do.

“If he (Triumphant One) puts his best foot forward, he’ll be a good chance.”
