Two Aboriginal footballers are in Queensland this weekend playing in a five-day football carnival.

Local lads Thomson Fleming (14) and Thomas Ware (15) are in Townsville for The National Diversity Championships after they were picked in a team of 25 a few weeks ago.

Thomson and Thomas were selected in the 2015 NSW/ACT Kickstart squad after impressing with their commitment and performance at the Adam Goodes Talent Program and camps a month ago.

Thomson said he was feeling nervous about attending the Program with the Swans star but excited about having been selected to play.

“We flew to Sydney and went down and did a few training sessions with Adam Goodes. It was pretty nerve-racking,” he said.

“We also attended a few meetings on different types of stuff to do with footy, as well as watching documentaries and having operation talks.

“They told us we were going to have a game and that a side would be picked from it.

“Thomas and I stood out in the game (the selectors) said, so we got picked to go down to Townsville. We’re both excited.”

If Thomson and Thomas impress during the carnival, they will be selected in the final team of 22 that will form the National Flying Boomerangs Team.

The Championships start today and will finish on Friday.
