A painting being used as a poster to promote the Silver City Cup was so good that someone has already snapped it up.
Silver City Cup vice-president, Jane Weekes, said the picture was designed by artist Amanda Johnson.
It shows the racecourse with a view back to the Pinnacles, the Miners’ Memorial, the Palace, the Line of Lode, the Town Hall Facade, the Post Office and the cross at the top of Argent Street.
“We approached Amanda because she does really beautiful work with bright and vibrant colours,” said Ms Weekes.
Silver City Cup president, Dave Gallagher, said every piece Amanda paints catches the eye.
“This painting really showcases Broken Hill and the Silver City Cup.
“We really try to support locals in everything we do.
“We purchase from locals in most things.
“Unfortunately sometimes we do have to go out of town.
“But the races still encourages people to attend and spend money in the town.”
The painting has already been sold to and is going to its new owner in Mawsons Lakes.
“We will have the prints available from the Silver City Cup office,” Ms Weekes said.
“It’s a really great way to kick off preparations for the Cup.”
The Cup as always is a family event with a big focus on children.
“Children under 12 get free entry and all the children’s activities are free,” Ms Weekes said.
“We will have a merry-go-round, bungee, Sumo suits, mechanical bull, velcro wall, jumping castle and face painting. They will be available to big and little kids for free.
“We will also have our celebrity judges who will be around to be in photos, do autographs, do the judging and take part in the day.”
