The 47th annual Eisteddfod will break from tradition this year with a change of venue.

This year’s Broken Hill Eisteddfod will feature a brand new category in a bid to counteract falling entrant numbers.

The section is open to seniors aged 50 years and over and includes Vocal (solo, duet and trio), Piano (solo and duet), Instrumental (solo, duet or trio and groups) and Speech and Drama (recitation, storytelling and spoken prose for ensembles and groups).

A second shake up is a change of venue for the 47th annual event. It will be held at the Musicians’ Club in Crystal Street on August 20 to 24.

The major event is traditionally held at the Civic Centre but it will be closed for renovations.

Talented locals can enrol in any section by June 17, with schedules now available at Broken Hill Music, South News Agency and the library.

For more information call publicity officer Merrilyn Podnar on (08) 8087 7633 or podnars@aapt.net.au.
