A squad of the town’s best high school netballers is preparing to drive 12 hours for a challenging carnival.
Made up of girls from Broken Hill High School and Willyama, the Far West Academy of Sport Netball team of 11 will head down to Narrabeen on May 22 to play in the Combined High Schools Netball Carnival.
The girls will play nine games over three competitive days against teams from all over New South Wales.
“We’ve been training since about mid last term,” said Coach Cassie Wells.
“The girls trained during the holidays as well which was a pretty good commitment from them was.
“They are very excited, it’s a fairly different team to what they took last year so I think we’ll go in and be more competitive.
“Most of these girls have played together for a while, so they’ve got the ability to know each other’s style and game.”
Ms Wells is confident the girls have what it takes to play out the nine games in such a short time frame.
“They can handle it, they’ll be right!”
She also said that the trip is not just about the sporting side but also the cultural side.
“I also think the trip’s important, because it’s not just about playing sport, it’ll give the girls that cultural experience,”
“The girls will be involved in various activities each afternoon and evening.”
