South continued its demolition job of the other teams in the Broken Hill AFL on Saturday, posting a commanding 52-point victory against the Robins at the Alma Oval.
Cody Schorn was the pick of the forwards for the Roos, picking up a bag of nine goals while Marc Purcell made a significant contribution to the scoreboard with three.
After being held scoreless in the first quarter, West kicked three in the second and found themselves still in touch at halftime trailing the Roos by 37 points.
Cody Schorn was the first to slot one through after halftime with a beautiful right-foot snap from the boundary line at the eight minute mark of the third quarter.
South kicked another two in quick succession before Robbie Bates pegged one back for the Robins.
Purcell found himself on the end of a string of quick handballs and finished the quarter for the Roos with another goal to boot.
South by 53 points at the last change.
The last quarter a was shoot-out between the clubs, each piling on six goals to finish the day.
A highlight of the last quarter for the Robins was a return to form for Nathan Kickett.
In his first game this season, the burly forward took two great marks across the half forward and went back and slotted through two booming kicks through the big sticks.
For South in the last, Jake Gepp marked everything that came his way, cutting a formidable figure across the half forward.
The Robins won the last quarter by a point and, with a 52-point loss, can take heart that they have got the closest to the Roos this year.
South Coach Billy Dolan is happy his side is winning, but he would like to see them keep improving each week.
“They are travelling alright, their hands are moving good,” Dolan said after the game.
“We still haven’t hit the game style I want to play.
“We are getting better and better each week, but we still have a lot to go before I’m happy with the level that we’re playing at.
He said it was hard to stand out one good player for the Roos, but gave Cody Schorn a mention for his impact on the scoreboard, Jake Gepp across the half forward, and the midfielders “did their job”.
“They are a good bunch of lads, most of them are around 23, 24 ... still young,” Dolan said.
“They are the same side that we had years ago that was getting belted by 20 goals.
“Most people don’t remember that stuff.
“It’s the same group that has come through and you can see the end result.
“The hard work has paid off.”
