Isaac Cumming won the Frank Thomas Best Junior Award at the Lionel Johnston Medal presentation night last year. Isaac Cumming won the Frank Thomas Best Junior Award at the Lionel Johnston Medal presentation night last year.

North junior Isaac Cumming has been selected in the first-ever Allies squad to take part in the Division One AFL NAB U/18 National Championships on June 4.

Cumming won the Broken Hill Football League’s Best Junior award last year and impressed in the Division 2 round of the U/18 Championships which has earned him selection in this side.

Despite the jump in competition, Cumming is eager for the challenge.

“It will be great to mix it with the best from the other Div 2 sides and develop as a team over the carnival,” he said.

“The skill level will rise but that just means individually and we as a team will need to lift and improve, which I definitely think we can do.”

Former local Kobe Mutch has also been selected after a couple of breakout performances for the NSW/ACT side.

GWS Giants Academy player Mutch is said to be one of the top midfield prospects in this year’s draft and 31 disposals against Queensland plus 29 touches and a goal against Tasmania showed exactly why.

The Allies are made up of NSW, Qld, NT and Tasmanian players, all of whom competed in the Division 2 Championships that recently concluded.

Former Swans star Tadhg Kennelly will coach the side with his assistants coming from Tassie, Qld and the NT.

The Allies play South Australia on June 4 at AAMI Stadium.
