The annual Gem and Mineral Show “Rock-on” is being held tomorrow and aims to educate and entertain locals.

The organisers, the BH Mineral Club, is a group of amateur mineral and gem stone collectors. Their show is open tomorrow between 1pm and 5pm, and continues on Saturday, from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 9am to 3pm.

Club President Trevor Dart said this was the fifth show to be held, and the second at the racecourse.

“Mineral dealers come from all over Australia, including two prominent dealers - one from Sydney and one from Tasmania,” he said. Mr Dart said he was hopingfor some good weather after last year’s dust. He said opal jewellery, gem stones and other crafts would be for sale.

“Dealers who specialise in mineral specimens for collectors will also be there ... locals can come and have a look,” Mr Dart said. There will also be visitors from Japan who will have a stall on Friday afternoon.

Mr Dart is encouraging all locals to attend. He said for those who attended last year the show will be “as big if not better”. “It is worth a look if you haven’t seen it.”Food and refreshments will be available on site and anyone interested can sign up for a “taga- long” organised mineral fossicking trip in the local area.

Entry will cost $3 for adults and $1 for pensioners and children over the age of 12. There is no cost for children under 12.
