Guides reunite, celebrate

To celebrate their centenary the local Girl Guides will be holding a reunion in conjunction with a national flag flying and promise renewal ceremony.
On Sunday, October 10, at 10am all girl guides Australia-wide will fly the world flag and renew their guide promise as part of the celebrations. In addition to this event local guides are reaching out to all past members with an invitation join in the celebration.
They are hosting a Girl Guide reunion, which will be run in conjunction with the other ceremonies. Regional Girl Guides leader Fiona Nash said the local girl guides were making the flag flying, promise renewal and reunion one event.
“We thought it would be a good idea to combine the reunion with the promise renewal,” Mrs Nash said. She also said the girls would be putting on a morning tea and vintage uniforms will be placed on show, as well as old badges and photos.
Mrs Nash said it had been hard to track down ex-girl guides but they were hoping to get a good roll-up. “It was primarily for any person who was an ex- Guide and we are opening it up to all ex-Guides and ex-leaders,” she said.
“We are just trying to get it out there and inviting people to relive history and talk about the old times. “It would be lovely to catch up and talk about the old times.”
Past members are invited to the Girl Guide hall in Wolfram Street to be a part of the Promise Renewal at 10am or just come along at 10.30am to reminisce about old times, renew old acquaintances and revisit some local guiding history.
