Golfers from across the country are here this week for the annual Silver City Classic, Veteran Golf Week.

Organiser Denis Martin said about 90 golfers take part each day, representing 30 clubs from around the country. Proficient golfers from places such as Hervey Bay,Adelaide, Redcliffs and Forbes attend the event, which runs until Friday.

Yesterday competitors took part in a stableford par event, which has three divisions of men and three divisions of women play each other. Martin said he was surprised that a lot of golfers teed off early yesterday.

“(People have said it’s) a real good course. It’s as good as anywhere they’ve played.” Today and Thursday will then see the start of the main event, the women’s and men’s 36 hole stableford. “(It’s) pretty good for the town. (Guests) are eating and drinking here, (so) it’s good for Broken Hill,” Mr Martin said.

A 4-ball-best-ball (4BBB) will also be played on Friday with winners announced at a celebratory dinner that night. Trophies will be awarded for the winners of all thedays’ games.
