After more than 20 years with the BDT, senior journalist Andrew Robertson will work his last shift today.

During his time at The Truth, Robertson worked under four editors since starting as a cadet in 1995 and has written over 10,000 articles.

General Manager Rod Niemann yesterday said that Robertson had given the BDT great service.

“He’s always been a reliable, punctual journalist that produced quality work,” Niemann said.

“As a senior journo, Andrew’s also been great at helping and educating the young journalists that have come through  the paper.

“We’re sad to see him go but wish him all the best and it will give another up-and-coming journalist the chance to work at the BDT.”

Robertson was his typically humble self when asked about his tenure at the paper but said that being able to break a story, even in the now fairly quiet city of Broken Hill, gave him the most satisfaction.

“Getting the news out there, breaking a new story, that was my favourite part about working at the BDT,” he said.

“And getting the support to do that, which comes back to the management we’ve had, to be able to chase the stories that you’re interested in.”

Robertson will remain in the city after accepting a position working in the communications field.
