bizarre incident at the back of a Mercury Street property has left a young couple baffled.

It appears someone in a ute or four-wheel drive has thrown a chain over a roller door backing onto a lane and ripped it out of the ground.

“My partner woke me up and told me about it when he got home from work,” said the woman who lives there.

She heard some noise during the night but thought nothing of it. When she spoke with neighbours in the morning, they said it happened about 3.45am.

“There’s nothing in my yard worth pinching at all, so it’s got me baffled,” she said.

The couple has two big dogs secured in another part of the yard and they barked when the incident happened.

“The roller door is a write off. There’s poles torn out the ground and everything.”

Police inspected the scene yesterday morning and took statements.

The roller door was installed in November last year. It was part of insurance claim for hail damage from the ice storm of November 2016.
