Locals flocked to TAFE yesterday as the annual Open Day was held with teachers from all faculties ready to greet potential students.

The Open Day was held for students to browse courses and talk to teachers on undertaking future study.

TAFE team leader Byron Hooker said people were already at the door as early as eight o’clock, ready to see what’s on offer.

“We had a big bolster at nine oíclock, they all come rushing in. Then it’s usually a steady stream.”

Mr Hooker said that from the Open Day, numbers for the 2018 academic year are looking on track.

With popularity for courses to be overall even, Mr Hooker wants to try and look for new ideas and avenues to create more courses for locals to participate in.

“We want to figure out any developments in the community and try and see if we can capitalise on any growth areas, to put more courses on.”

TAFE counsellor Gary Cook says that even with enrolments being done primarily online, teachers are still a great source of information.

“We’re committed to getting people through their courses. So course completion is a major goal for the teachers.”

Locals who are looking for future study with TAFE are still able to inquire and enrol until February 3.
