School zone speed limits are back with the 2018 school year now underway.

Drivers are to take notice of school zone signs, dragon’s teeth road markings and flashing lights that improve visibility when entering a school zone.

Placing a 40km/h speed limit helps protect children walking to and from school at times and areas they’re often in high numbers and also to prevent the risk and potential severity of a crash.

40km/h School Zones are in force on all days of the week which are not a weekend, public holiday, student-free day or a publicly notified school holiday for government schools.

Children are small, harder to see, vulnerable and can be unpredictable.

The Barrier LAC reminds locals to take extra care and attention when driving and parking around school zones.

School Zone Penalties, include:

$183 + 2 points for stopping in a No Parking Zone.

$439 + 2 points for stopping on a Pedestrian Crossing.

$330 + 2 points for stopping in a No Stopping Zone.

$330 + 2 points for stopping in a Bus Zone.

$330 + 2 points for Double Parking.

$439 + 4 points for using a Mobile Phone whilst driving.

MAX $3740 + 7 points for Speeding Offences.
