Teams from the Nichols Point Soccer Club in Sunraysia traveled to Broken Hill last weekend for two preseason friendly games against local club Celtic FC.

Nichols Point’s men’s and women’s teams took on Celtic on Saturday. This was the fifth game between the men’s sides but the first time the women’s teams had met and the first time the event was held in Broken Hill.

Both games were convincing wins to Celtic with the women prevailing 4-0 and the men 6-2. Hamish Inglis scored two goals in the men’s game while Oliver Hovav, Kingsley McIntyre, Haydn McInnes and Jake Dawes all scored one each.

Celtic’s president and senior coach David Deacon said that the games against Nichols Point give the players a chance of something different.

“Celtic are the only club currently to have an annual fixture and from a club viewpoint it gives our players the chance to compete against a non-local club and test ourselves against a team from another league,” Deacon said.

“But it also gives our league exposure that we would not otherwise get and some recognition of the quality of our Football in Broken Hill.”
