A fabulous field of ladies lived the high life on Saturday, and dug deep to raise money as part of the lead-up to the St Pats Races in March.

The Hats and High Heels at High Tea event was again a great success with 52 ladies treated to some fine food, champagne, tea and music in a beautifully decorated hall at the Sturt Club.

They raised about $1000 during the afternoon which included a mini fashion parade courtesy of Fashion Den, a silent auction of new and re-decorated hats, and a raffle.

Organiser and long-time St Pats volunteer Pauline Rowlands said she was pleased with the turn out.

“It ended up quite good,” Pauline said yesterday. “It’s something different, somewhere to go and get dressed up, everyone is waiting on you,” she said.

Pauline, some of her relatives and other volunteers spent about six hours decorating the hall.

“They are all behind me, they all get out and help, and the Sturt Club are wonderful,” she said, adding that she would also like to thank all the businesses that helped make the event a success.

The 53rd St Patrick’s Race Meeting is on March 17 this year.

The feature race is the $32,550 Outback Cup ran over 1600m.

Memberships can be purchased at the St Pats office in Crystal Street.
