Donna’s in the pipeline
Wednesday, 21st February, 2018
Local resident Donna Kennedy has become the Aboriginal Community Engagement co-ordinator for the Wentworth to Broken Hill pipeline project.
Her role will involve ways to best engage with the public in Wentworth and Broken Hill.
There will also be career open days, training and development.
“I will also focus on training and development for Aboriginal people working with the project,” Ms Kennedy said.
“A lot of Aboriginal people involved in the project will be trained up and get the tickets they need to apply for other jobs in the future.
“This focus will give up the opportunity to apply skills to other big projects.”
Ms Kennedy said it was about developing a sustainable training program that could be a legacy for Aboriginal people.
“We want to make it about the community coming together both in Wentworth and Broken Hill.”
A consortium of John Holland, MPC Group and Trility were appointed to design, construct, operate and maintain the Wentworth to Broken Hill pipeline. The pipeline is scheduled to be completed by December.
It will supply up to 37.4 megalitres of a peak daily demand of raw water to Essential Water in Broken Hill. Essential Water will retain responsibility for water treatment and distribution.
