The first day of autumn arrived yesterday, bringing with it strong winds and a very cool change.

Although summer is now officially over, the season was kind to the Broken Hill district with mild temperatures and good rainfall. Statistics from Weatherzone and the Bureau of Meteorology showed that average temperatures for December and February were about a degree cooler than usual, while January was up by 2.3 degrees on the month's average. January also gave us the hottest day of summer when the mercury reached 42.3 on the 22nd, while the season's coolest day of 23.2 fell on February 13.

Seasonal rainfall statistics were significantly boosted by heavy downpours in February which saw 109.6mm fall on the city for the month. The overall summer rainfall total was 130.8mm - which more than doubled the summer average of 53.8mm.
