Broken Hill Real Estate will be holding a clearance auction this weekend and are encouraging people to come along to snatch up a bargain.

BH Real Estate’s Clifford Wren said it was like a big garage sale with lots of antique items, furniture and little surprising knick-knacks.

“Instead of having a garage sale, it’s a multi-vendor auction,” Clifford said.

“It provides more bidders and the opportunity for each item to go for a better price.

“All of the items have been kept safe and dry in our warehouse.

“It’s a suitable property to store the goods.”

Clifford will be running the auction on Saturday.

“I had sold a couple of houses recently and people were telling me they had a surplus of furniture.

“I said if I had enough people interested I would run a mini auction.

“Then the word got around. I’ve had to close off receiving any more goods for the time being.

“But there is a commercial opportunity to run an event like this every quarter.”

Clifford said there were some amazing hidden gems in Broken Hill.

“It’s amazing what you can find in sheds and houses.

“The items are from people’s houses and sheds.

“They have dropped it off or we have picked it up.

“We are holding the auction on behalf of those people with a consignment fee.”

There have been a number of items that have already struck up interest.

“The most talked about item has been the Golden Fleece Petrol Bowser,” he said.

“We also have a lot of radio and phonograms donated, some are in perfect working order.

“There are a number of collector’s pieces and some quirky items that will also attract interest.”

Clifford said he expects about 300 people to attend.

“We’ve catalogued everything online and we put a TV screen on the wall to show each lot.

“Then we will just fire away, it will be done professionally like any other auction house.”

The auction will be conducted on site at 90 Crystal Street on Saturday from 9.30am.

There will be onsite catering from the Silver City Swim Club.

The last two viewing and registration times will be today from 10am - 4pm and tomorrow from 10am - 4pm.
