Labor councillors are pushing for City Council to develop a crime prevention plan by the end of June.

The establishment of such a plan was an election promise made by the Labor team, four of whom were elected to Council. Recent figures showed that crime levels in the city have remained static over the past two years, although some offences are well above the State average.

Papers show deficit under former mayor

A councillor has unearthed documents that she says prove that mayor hopeful Peter Black once led a City Council burdened by debt and deficit.

Mr Black served as Labor mayor of Broken Hill from 1980 to 1999 before going on to become a State MP.

Councillor Marion Browne served alongside Mr Black during his reign, for a large part as a "faithful deputy mayor".

The local branch of the Labor Party has officially announced its ticket for the September 8 elections.

Branko Licul and Jim Nolan are the newcomers on the ticket, joining mayoral candidate Darriea Turley, current Councillor Marion
Browne and ALP Vice President Graeme "Shorty" Reville.

"I'm very pleased to announce that Jim and Branko will complete our local government ticket," Cr Turley said.
