Tamara Treleavan has long regarded Menindee Lakes as one of the nation's best kept secrets - and now she wants everyone to know about it.

Mrs Treleavan nominated the lakes in the Hooroo Secret Spot competition, believing them to be among the best places to go for stunning scenery and an unforgettable experience.

Julie Fletcher says she's no storm chaser, but the professional photographer's ability to track and monitor a storm front hovering over the Menindee Lakes led her to capture the spell-binding image known as 'Graveyard.'

"I watched the weather conditions and I've been doing a fair bit of work in the Menindee Lakes area in the last 12 months," Mrs Fletcher said.

The Central Darling Shire Council was one of the first councils in NSW to try out an innovative new road repair machine that enabled them to fix damaged streets in Menindee in record time.

The reconstruction and stabilisation project was completed last month. It took just four days to patch and reconstruct three square kilometres of road.

Council used the new Rotamixer machine developed by a Gosford company, Sharpe Bros.

A new art gallery is set to open in the Menindee Tourist Information Centre.

Artist and member of the Menindee Regional Tourist Association, Annette Minchin, said the Association came up with the idea for the gallery which will open on Friday.

"We brought the premises for the tourist shop and opened in March. At that point we had completed the shop," Ms Minchin said.

Just how serious the threat from floodwaters coming from the north is in Menindee depends on who you ask in the town.

Maiden’s Hotel licensee, Noelene Ratcliff, has the Darling River near the back door - but she isn’t worried.

“It won’t hit the fence. Before the (levee) bank was put up, the water used to hit the box trees,” Ms Ratcliff said.
