Music fans searching for a break from the mainstream are invited to experience a much heavier sound at the Night Train tonight.

A mixture of local and interstate artists will take to the stage to play a variety of power, thrash and hardcore metal, along with some old-school rock.

Broken Hill’s own Soulforge will be joined by Imminent Psychosis (Adelaide), Pistenbroke (Adelaide) and Sithyc (Port Pirie) in a huge night of heavy metal.

 The TAFE campus has a new manager.

Tuana Sanders replaces Brian Boydell who was relieving following the resignation of the former manager, Scott Dennis.

Ms Sanders was previously the Regional Manager of the Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Service for the Far West Local Health District.

O’Farrell to privatise power generators

The privatisation of the State’s power generators could pave the way for energy industry sell-offs, according to local Labor branch President, Darriea Turley.

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell announced yesterday that the sale of the electricity generators would go ahead after he gained support for the legislation from Shooters party MPs on Tuesday.

In exchange for the Shooters’ support, Mr O’Farrell granted licensed shooters access to 79 of the State’s national parks.

The Broken Hill Health Service is inviting everyone who ever worked at the Broken Hill hospital join them in celebrating its 125th anniversary.

“We want all past and present employees of all departments of the BH Hospital to join us as we celebrate this special occasion,” said one of the organisers, Jan Pearce.

The celebrations start on Friday, July 20 with a “meet and greet” at the Tydvil Hotel at 7pm. 

Escaped prisoners captured

Three prisoners who escaped from the Broken Hill jail on Monday were recaptured yesterday morning on the Sydney road.

It has not been revealed how they escaped but police said they were alerted by a member of the public who told them he had seen three men in prison greens walking past the Centro Shopping Centre about 1pm on Monday.

Police and Corrective Services officers conducted a search around the shopping centre but were unable to find the men, Duty Officer Matt Scott said yesterday.
