Burke Ward have been crowned the junior hardball champions for the season, after defeating Sacred Heart/Central in the weekend's Grand Final.

Burke Ward won the toss on what was a steamy morning and chose to field, which saw Dwyer and Robertson stride out to open the batting for Sacred Heart/Central.

Four Willyama High School students have been recognised at their school's presentation evening for achievement in their various sporting pursuits.

Sara Ridley received the Pierre De Coubertin Award, a statewide NSW sports award that is handed out to a student who displays attributes consistent with the Olympic movement.

With attention slowly turning to the 2013 season, the Alma Soccer Club has put out a call for players interested in joining the club.

While The Goats missed out on Grand Final action in 2012, they are looking ahead to next season and hope to be a major player come finals time.

Alma Soccer Club Publicity Officer, Emma Reeves, said the club is throwing open its doors to new players and people who might be new to town.

Both of the weekend's local cricket matches were washed out after rainfall on Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday morning left the pitches at the Jubilee and Alma Ovals unplayable.

This Sunday will see the conclusion of local basketball for 2012, with Grand Final Day to be held at the R. K. Sanderson Stadium complex.

While there will be the usual array of emotions as teams experience the joy of victory and the grief of defeat; there will be some sadness for everyone, as Sam, Jasmine and Lachlan Simmons play their final games of Basketball in the city.
